The Jawahar Ghat at Thalassery beach is historically significant because of its role in our national freedom movement. During the freedom struggle, it was at this place that the revolutionaries of the place converged.
In 1940, the left-wing supporters within the Congress organized an agitation here against the British, despite official rules against it. An encounter between the agitators and the police occurred and in the firing that ensued, Abu Master and Chathukkutti were shot dead.
