Malampuzha dam, located about 10 kms from Palakkad, is one of the major attractions in the district. It is the largest reservoir in Kerala and was built in 1955 across Malampuzha, a tributary of River Nila.
Malampuzha garden with its manicured lawns, well laid out flower beds, pools, fountains and pathways is situated adjacent to the dam. The garden is famous for its aerial ropeway. A ride through the aerial ropeway offers a panoramic view of the dam and the garden. The rock-cut garden here designed by Nek Chand is distinct with the fact that it is made of waste materials such as used plastic bottles, cans, discarded tiles, granites, stones, fuse carriers, etc. There is also a rose garden, with more than 100 varieties on display. One of the major highlights here is the concrete sculpture of Yakshi (celestial maiden) made by the renowned sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman. Besides this, a freshwater aquarium, a children's park and boating facilities make it an ideal spot for picnics.
