The Thodeekulam Siva temple in Kannur is one of the oldest temples in Kerala. It is renowned for its galleries of mural paintings. The temple complex is located about 2 kms from Kannavanam on the Thalassery-Mananthavady road.
There are over 150 mural paintings spread across an area of 700 sq. ft. It contains 40 panels drawn on the four walls of the sanctum sanctorum. The murals portray village life from the 16th-18th centuries and popular stories from Indian epics.
The temple is believed to have been constructed 2000 years ago, and was closely connected with the Pazhassi Raja family of Kottayam.
