Thunchan Gurumadom

Thunchan Gurumadom

Thunchan Gurumadom is a memorial to Thunchath Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the 18th century poet, who is known as the father of Malayalam language. Though Ezhuthachan's homeland is in Thiroor, the poet spent most of his lifetime here in this madom. It is situated near the Sokanasini River in Chittoor, which is about 15 kms from Palakkad. It is believed that the poet lived here for some time and wrote the much acclaimed Ramayanam Kilippattu and Bhagavatam Kilippattu.

People from far and wide throng here on Vijayadasami day to formally initiate their children into the world of learning and letters. The madom also exhibits some of the idols worshipped by the poet, a Srichakra, a stylus, wooden slippers and a few old manuscripts.
