Ummichipoyil is a prominent tribal settlement, about 23 kms from Nileswaram. Today, most of it is covered in rubber plantations. The laterite hilltop of Karintham village on the banks of River Nileswaram shows evidence of the Megalithic Age. There are many rock-cut caves in the area called Muniyaras, which are believed to be more than 2000 years old.
In Varikulam, overlooking River Chandragiri, visitors can look out for Kudakkallu or Umbrella stones. The place also features unique rock benches.
