Mannarasala temple |
The beginnings of serpent or naga worship in Kerala are lost in the mists of time. Many temples have a sanctum set apart for the worship of Nagaraja (serpent king). The Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is dedicated exclusively for the worship of the serpent god and his consort. The temple premises remind one of a tropical jungle with trees overgrown with arm thick vines and having undergrowth. The temple situated near Harippad is under the patronage of a Brahmin family, headed by a priestess. Turmeric is the main offering. |
