St. Francis church |
Just off the Vasco da Gama square is the St. Francis church of Fort Kochi where Vasco da Gama was buried, but later the remains were taken back to Portugal. The church is the oldest European church in India, built in 1503 by the Portuguese. First built by Franciscan friars it was restored in 1779 by the Protestant Dutch. The British converted it into an anglican church in 1795. |
