| Surrounding the reservoir of the famous Idukki arch dam, the sanctuary is 77 sq. m. in area and is situated at an altitude of 450 – 748 metres above sea level. It encompasses the forest land between the Cheruthoni river and Periyar river. Tourists can see in the sanctuary elephants, sambar deer, wild dogs, jungle cats, tiger, wild boars as well as a variety of snakes both poisonous and non - poisonous. There are also birds like Jungle Foul, Myna, Laughing Thrush, Black Bulbut, Peacocks, Wood Pecker and Kingfishers. |
