The Sabarimala temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is situated some 914 ms above sea level in the Western Ghats. Lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country make pilgrimage to the temple and the devotees take strict celebate vows before the pilgrimage. Women after their menarche and before the menopause are not allowed to take the trip since Lord Ayyappa is a celibate. Pilgrim season: November to mid January. Also open in the first five days of every Malayalam month.
