Two rivers – Chinnar and Pambar – run through the sanctuary which supports the ecology of the sanctuary. The Pambar, which originates in the Anamudi hills, traverses the Eravikulam National Park and flows down into the Chinnar sanctuary. Interestingly, the two rivers merge at Koottar and drain into the Amaravathy reservoir in the nearby state of Tamil Nadu.
