In search of my Kurinji: The Tale of a Land across Time

The splendour of the blue mountains, the swooning beauty of the sea of blue buds beneath and the airy blue above....drowning in all the beautiful blues

Dosa’s of Aluva

As I neared Aluva, I realized that my stomach had started rumbling. I am prone to becoming ravenously hungry when I get up early. But I had decided that my breakfast should be ‘dosas’ and freshly ground coconut chutney, preferably cooked to perfection by a lady running a wayside canteen. I started scrutinizing either sides of the road for my fantasy to materialize. But luck was hard on me that day and it was with a defeated heart that I turned right to get on to the Aluva Perumbavoor Road. Soon I could see the majestic Periyar River on my left, meandering its ways through the little villages that I too was passing by. It was just after hitting Perumbavoor that my dream materialized. On my left was a small restaurant. An elderly lady was making dosas on a gas stove. Beside her was a young boy, probably her son, beating tea, pulling and stretching it delightfully from one tumbler to the other. There was a transistor humming old forgotten songs in the background. My heart skipped a beat. This was picture perfect. I scrambled out, thanking all my stars. Tucking in piping hot dosas with the delicately flavoured chutney that had spluttered mustards winking at you from the corners, I thought there was nothing much more I wanted to do in life. It was the tastiest and cheapest breakfast I had eaten, ever. I resumed my drive with a song on my lips and wonderfully well placated taste buds.
