The splendour of the blue mountains, the swooning beauty of the sea of blue buds beneath and the airy blue above....drowning in all the beautiful blues
-Meenakshi
From Neriamangalam begins the Mullai or forest terrain of the thinai poetics, and my corresponding mood was one of waiting, knowing that soon I would leave all the cares of the world behind, its sick hurry and divided aims, and be one with the wind and the mountain trees. I opened the windows and allowed myself to be seeped in the cool mountain air. There was hardly any traffic. Up ahead was a troop of monkeys loitering around the roadside, and their leader grinned at me with a hint of mockery. I did not dare stop the car for they seemed to relish the stray titbits that travelers threw their way than the regular natural fare available on the trees. Soon I was at the Cheeyappara Waterfalls. The water was cascading down what seemed a seven-tiered descent and people seemed to have shed all inhibitions as men and women were jostling to have a cool shower underneath the overhanging rocks. I sat on the opposite side of the road enjoying the ravine on the other side.
After a ten minute break, I resumed my journey only to be soon greeted by the ravishing Valara Waterfalls on my right. The tumultuous flow of the water, the enigmatic ravines below, the thick forests for a backdrop, all set me yearning to touch down on this spot. I wondered what would be the route to get there, for I was sure there would be some trekking routes that would allow the ones who loved to wander off the beaten path access to this remote and pristine spot.
