Medical Travel a prospective avenue for Kerala Tourism
Kerala is poised for a major growth in the field of medical travel, Mr.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism said, while inaugurating
the Kerala Health Tourism 2007 held recently in Kochi. Kerala is
envisaging several projects to make it an international medical travel
destination, and has set an ambitious target of attracting one lakh
medical tourists per year in the next five years, the minister said.
About 800 delegates from India and abroad attended the two-day event,
which was organised jointly by Kerala Tourism and the Kerala Chapter of
the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). Stakeholders of the
industry including hospital owners, tour operators, medical insurance
company representatives and hotel owners had fruitful discussions on
emerging trends, opportunities and challenges in the field.
