Butterfly museum at Konni elephant camp

A butterfly museum will be set up by the Department of Forests at Konni elephant camp in Pathanamthitta district. Many beautiful butterflies, including some rare ones, will find a home in this park. Due to increased urbanization, some species of these winged beauties have already become extinct in Kerala.

The park would be enclosed in a polycarbonate dome suitably designed for weather control. The park would also have a conservatory, museum and an audio visual room which would help to create awareness among general public and students about the amazing bio-diversity of Kerala. This eco-tourism initiative will also have a breeding house, which will feature all the phases in the life cycle of a butterfly, right from the pupa stage to the full-grown adult stage.

Konni is a major eco-tourist centre in the state, with many attractions like elephant kraal, elephant training centre, mini-theater, elephant museum and elephant safari.
