Eco-tourism is the prime concern: Minister
Kerala Tourism is keen to undertake only such projects, which do not endanger the environmental stability and bio-diversity of Kerala, informed Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism. He inaugurated the Neyyar Dam Destination Plan, a 30.25 million rupee project aiming at the development of Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary as a major eco-tourist destination. The project, implemented in association with the Department of Forests, is expected to provide employment opportunities for the local citizens.
The 128 sq. km sanctuary will highly benefit from the proposed project, which includes many beautification as well as development plans. The entrance will feature a Kottiyambalam and a facilitation centre will be there to welcome tourists. Landscaping will be done with the theme 'Back to Heritage'. A garden with stone pathways, benches and fountains will be constructed. A traditional Kerala style restaurant will be another attraction. Dr. Venu, V., Secretary, Kerala Tourism, said that once these projects are implemented, Neyyar Dam will be one of the most sought after eco-tourist destinations in the state.
