Development plans for Elakamon backwaters
Elakamon, the scenic backwater stretch of Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, will soon find a place of its own in the tourist map of Kerala. An amount of three million rupees has been allocated for the first phase development of this destination with immense eco-tourist potential.
The development plans include the building of a boat jetty and accommodation facilities. The projects will be carried out by ensuring that they pose no threat to the environment. An area of 2.5 acres of land has been identified for the project. The construction work will be eco-friendly, making use of natural building materials like bamboo and wood instead of concrete. Employment generation for the local people will also be a prime priority.
