Another glorious chapter has been added to the hospitality sector of
Kozhikode, with Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, inaugurating
the State Institute of Hospitality Management at the Yatri Nivas here.
There are 50 seats for the three year BSc programme, and the students
are selected through an all India entrance test. There are also 10 additional
seats, reserved solely for students from Kerala.
It is the Department of Industries that has contributed the land required
for the setting up of the institute. The 156.5 million rupees project
is a joint venture by the central as well as state governments. Dr. Venu,
V., Secretary, Kerala Tourism, has said that the institute will soon have
added facilities and would start research programmes in hotel management
and hospitality management.
