Peruvannamuzhy, a scenic village in Kozhikode, has been included in the list of eco-tourism destinations in Kerala with Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, inaugurating the eco-tourism project here on August 10, 2008. This 130.70 million rupee project is being implemented by Pannikkottur Vana Samrakshana Samiti and is funded by Kerala Tourism.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Tourism investors, who are ready to invest in Malabar area, will get a 15% of government subsidy. More tourism projects, involving the departments of forestry, irrigation and electricity are on the anvil, he informed.
An ecological hotspot in the Western Ghats, Peruvannamuzhy is home to over 680 species of rare plants. The facilities that will be available in the sanctuary include wild animal rehabilitation centre, bird sanctuary, crocodile farm, trekking and boating.
