The first ever Yatri Nivas-turned-Tamarind Hotel has been inaugurated at Kollam by Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism. This venture by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is located on the banks of the Ashtamudi backwater. The attractions here include a multi-cuisine open air restaurant, 24 air-conditioned rooms and a conference hall with a capacity of 100.

Apart from this, travellers can have a relaxing cruise through the backwaters of Kollam in the boats offered by the hotel. There are two safari boats, two speed boats and four pedal boats. Mr. Cheriyan Philip, Chairman, KTDC, has said that Tamarind Easy Hotels strive to make staying in Kerala more comfortable and affordable. Efforts are on to transform many existing government owned hotels into Tamarind Hotels, he added.
