Backwater delights of Chirayinkizh to be unveiled
Situated in the north-west part of Trivandrum district is the lesser known backwater village of Chirayinkizh. It may not be as vast in size compared to other backwater destinations of Kerala, but has its own attractions appealing for travelers. This backwater village destination is close to the famed Varkala beach and would further add value to the region once the backwater region gets its due attention. The recently sanctioned backwater tourism project at Chirayinkizh village would have the nearby backwater stretches of Kadinamkulam / Anjengo and the Vamanapuram river in the scheme of things meant for development.
The upcoming tourism project at Chirayinkizh will be based on the model of the successful. Kumarakom backwater village. The project would include the backwater attractions at Chirayinkizh and would also have visitors getting linked to other interesting spots in and around the region. They include the ancient Mahadevar Temple at Kadinamkulam; Muthalapozhi, the estuary of the Vamanapuram River; the Anjengo Fort and the birth place of the great Malayalam poet – Kumaranasan at Kayikkara. Floating jetties, children’s park, tourist facilitation centre and walkways by the side of backwaters are some of the features coming up as part of the project, which is to commence in August this year.
