The recently held Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE) 2009 turned out to be highly encouraging for the stakeholders of Kerala Tourism. It was the first time that Kerala Tourism participated in China’s biggest tourism event.
The Kerala Tourism contingent at BITE 2009 had Somatheeram Ayurvedic Beach Resort, Travancore Heritage, Thomas group Hotels and Resorts, Mir Resorts, Kadavu Resort and Great India Tour Company. The Kerala contingent was led by the president of the South Kerala Hoteliers Forum (SKF) Mr. Chacko Paul.
The response to the Kerala Tourism pavilion at BITE 2009 was quite amazing. Most of the Chinese tour operators who visited the pavilion had queries on houseboats, Ayurveda and beaches. The Kerala contingent used the expo to explore and join hands in business understandings with Chinese tour operators.
With Kerala looking for new markets, the stakeholders in Kerala are of the view that aggressive marketing of the destination would help attract Chinese travelers to Kerala. At a follow-up meeting to BITE, Tourism Secretary Dr. Venu V. and Director, Mr. M. Sivasankar emphasized the support of Kerala Tourism to the positive initiatives taken by the stakeholders to tap the Chinese inbound market.
