Teething problems find cost-effective cure in Kerala

Kerala, as a global brand, achieved that status through Ayurveda and Tourism. But now the brand value of Kerala has been enhanced further by its status as a leading destination in the world for Dental Tourism.

The reasons behind Kerala’s emergence as a leading global destination for dental tourism are attributed to the increase in the number of dental clinics on a par with international standards and the attractive cost advantage when compared to the scenario in U.S.A. and Europe.

Dental tourism, which grew as a branch of medical tourism in Kerala now has its own distinct identity as a medical service sector catering to dental treatment requirements of travelers. Figures show that dental tourism has registered 25 to 30% growth in the past three years in Kerala and in 2008, Kerala witnessed the arrival of nearly 3000 foreign travelers seeking dental treatment. The number will further go up and would be around 5000, if one is to take into account the number of non-resident Keralites and people from other states opting Kerala for dental treatment.

It was by 2004 that dental tourism began to make its presence felt in a major way in Kerala. It was basically the consistent publicity campaigns undertaken by stakeholders in various national and international travel marts showcasing their capabilities in the field of dental healthcare that further buoyed dental tourism in Kerala. Besides, the Medical Tourism Fair jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries and Kerala Tourism turned out to be a timely one for Kerala’s dental tourism sector to gain more publicity.

Most of the foreign travelers seeking dental treatment in Kerala require root canal, dental implant crown, lamination and treatment for the gum. These travelers are mostly from countries like England, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Travellers undergoing dental treatment in Kerala, definitely enjoy the cost advantage when compared to those in other places. But, they also enjoy the advantage of having easy accessibility to tourist destinations in between the treatment schedules and of course the presence of three international airports, which makes the whole travel schedule worth every penny.
