DMCs to run tourist destinations

As part of the efforts to further develop tourist centres in Kerala, Kerala Tourism has set up Destination Management Councils (DMC). Initially, DMCs would be involved with three tourist centres in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram viz. Veli, Shanghumugham and Neyyar Dam.

The DMC would monitor and manage the destinations assigned to them and also the projects associated with respective destinations. The DMCs as part of developmental efforts of destinations would ensure quality facilities including their operation and maintenance and make sure that the destinations are safe and clean.

DMCs will be vested with powers to address issues related to infrastructure, security, unauthorised developments and encroachments. The DMCs can also formulate strategies and undertake publicity and promotional activities for sustaining the popularity of destinations.
