Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, has announced that an amount of 50 million rupees will be allocated for the development of heritage commercial centres of Kerala, like the Chalai market in Thiruvananthapuram, Broadway and Mattancherry market in Ernakulam, and Mittayi Theruvu (SM Street) in Kozhikode.
All these places have commercial as well as historic significance. These are favourite haunts of travelers also, the minister said. He added that Kerala Tourism will give priority to such projects in which tourism development and commercial development would go hand in hand.
