Nearby towns to backup Munnar
A top hill destination of Kerala, Munnar has indeed grown in stature owing to the demands of its visitors. Of late, a new trend has picked up, in which visitors to Munnar prefer to stay in nearby towns and access Munnar for its delights. The developments in satellite towns like Adimali, Anachal, Chittirapuram and Kallar have promoted tourist arrivals to Munnar. One of the reasons behind such a trend has been the burgeoning problem of accommodation in Munnar. Now with satellite towns opening up to tourists with many homestays and small resorts offering affordable options for accommodation, tourists find it convenient to access Munnar and still have a good time.
According to Secretary for Tourism, Dr. Venu V., “The new trend triggered by the satellite towns will be a good experience for tourists visiting those areas. This trend is expected to change the face of Idukki District. It may soon become like Wayanad, where tourism development follows a decentralized pattern. And this would also reduce the impact of pollution and other environmental issues.”
The surrounding areas of Munnar are witnessing development projects to cater to the needs of tourists arriving at Munnar. These areas show slight differences in climatic conditions when compared to Munnar and the homestays and small lodges coming up here help the local people to earn some decent revenue from the business. On the anvil is a tourism master plan for Munnar, which once implemented would augur well for the popular hill destination of Munnar.
