JULY 2009

Not a disappointing season ahead

The odds are stacked against most of the business types, around the world; particularly the travel business. But, riding the wave of global financial crunch and doing the best to tide over the situation innovatively seems to hold the key; especially for the travel industry.

As things stand now, Kerala Tourism met the challenge of global recession by reworking its campaign strategies to effectively tap the domestic as well as foreign travel segments. The tourism sector in Kerala is picking up quite nicely as it is evident from the bookings for the upcoming season. Hoteliers and travel agents are quite upbeat with bookings almost over for December. Some of them have indicated increased bookings by travelers from the U.K.

The tourism industry collectively feels that the timely measures taken by Kerala Tourism has been target oriented, resulting in fairly good response so far for the upcoming season. The recent tie-up with Jet Airways – Jet2Kerala – has added further hope to what probably would have been a dismal season this year.

Secretary, Kerala Tourism, Dr. Venu V., felt that the measures taken so far have helped in providing the desired boost to the travel industry in Kerala. As part of it, Kerala Tourism did attend various roadshows in the recent past in various cities inside the country. There are signs of the sector picking up, but the momentum needs to be sustained for better performance, he added.
