Security measures to be boosted up

All four-star as well as five-star hotels in the state will soon get a security audit, informed Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism. He was talking to the media after convening a conference on security issues held in the background of Mumbai terror attacks.

Deputy Superintendents of Police of the Special Branch will be in charge of the security audit. It would cover not only the guests but also the hotel staff, temporary workers and contractors. Along with hotels, tourist destinations will also be under close watch. Special attention will be paid to the houseboats in Alappuzha, the minister said.

Maximum vigilance is requested from the side of hotels, too. They have to examine the travel documents of guests and reports should be filed about the foreigners staying in the hotel right from their check-in date. This can be done with the help of internet. With all these measures taken, the state will prove to be of utmost safety to travelers, the minister said.
