Barcelona-Kerala Cultural Show
A three-day long Barcelona-Kerala cultural show was held at the Tagore Theatre in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala from May 24 to 26. This cultural festival was a joint initiative of Kerala Tourism and the Embassy of Spain in India. The organizers conceived it as a cultural project to promote cooperation between the two cultural communities and spread the culture of Barcelona in India.
The festival was jointly inaugurated by noted filmmaker Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan and the Spanish Ambassador to India Mr. Ion de la Riva. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a concert by Gertrudis, one of the popular bands of the new fusion of flamenco with rumba, reggae, cumbia and the rhythms of the East.
The cultural events began with the screening of the children's movie Tic Tak. The festival also screened films like Under Construction, In the City and The Secret Life of Words. In the theatre and dance category a puppet show was held at the Kanakakkunnu Palace Hall and a drama titled Tricicle and the versatile performance of a dance piece - Sol Pico by the Mariona Sagarra, were staged at the Tagore Theatre.
For music lovers there were concerts that had basic rhythms of Afro-Cuban music and Catalan tradition. The famous singer Gerard Quintana entertained the crowd with the pop-rock music of his recently released album - Barcelona, from Roof- to -Roof.
