Ecotourism in Nilambur
Nilambur, situated on the banks of the River Chaliyar in Malappuram district is on its course to become one of Kerala's best eco-tourism destinations. Through the Nilambur Tourism Promotion Project, Kerala Tourism aims to realize the beautification of the landscapes and the maintenance of monuments. The project would cover areas like Chaliyar Mukku, Nedumkayam, Adyanpara waterfalls, Kozhippara waterfalls, Connolly's Plot, the suspension bridge across River Chaliyar, old DFO's bungalow, KFRI teak sub-centre and the Bio-resource Nature Park.
A highlight of the tourism promotion project at Nilambur would be the 143 m long suspension bridge across the River Chaliyar. This bridge will connect the Connolly's Plot with the mainland. Connolly's Plot is famous for having the world's oldest teak plantation and the biggest planted teak - Connemara.
Nilambur in Malappuram district is one of the popular destinations in Kerala noted for its rain forests, ancient tribal settlements, pottery and of course the teak plantations.
