Grand Kerala Shopping Festival 2010-11 begins

Season 4 of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) began in Kerala on December 1. It is the largest shopping festival in the world in terms of geographical spread. GKSF has become one of the main attractions for destination Kerala, as the shopping festival period is also an attractive reason for the presence of more travellers in the state. The district-level inaugural functions of GKSF were held in the all districts.

Inaugurating the state-level opening of GKSF in Palakkad, the Minster for Tourism, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that, the weekly draw of GKSF 2010-2011 would be celebrated and programmes by well-known artistes would make the draws more colourful. The weekly draws of GKSF would be held at Kannur on December 12, Thrissur on December 19, Kottayam on December 26, Ernakulam on January 2, Iringal in Kozhikode on January 9 and Thiruvananthapuram on January 16, a day after the festival ends.

In season 4 the shopping festival has come up with added attractions in terms of prizes to be won. The quantity of gold prize has been increased from 40 kg to 101 kg. The mega first prize of one kilogram of gold each would go to three persons and half a kilogram of gold each to six persons as second prize. The weekly prizes have 25 sovereigns each as the first prize for three persons and 10 sovereigns each as the second prize for twelve persons and 5 sovereigns each as the third prize for forty-eight persons. There are also gold prizes in the scratch-and-win category, which has been included following the request of the merchant community, besides prizes comprising handloom products with a made-in Kerala tag.
