GKSF to go beyond Kerala during season 4
The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), which has become a popular shopping festival of Kerala, will have its presence felt outside the state's boundaries during the upcoming fourth edition in 2010. The attempt is part of the efforts by the Kerala Government to make Kerala an international shopping destination. By spreading its wings outside Kerala, GKSF would be able to attract big brands. This would also act as a catalyst for enhanced growth and development in the tourism sector of Kerala.
The intention of GKSF to go beyond Kerala was conveyed by the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan during a partnership meeting, organized recently in Thiruvananthapuram. The shopping extravaganza, spearheaded by Kerala Tourism in association with other government departments would become 'grand' only with the arrival of big brands, the minister said. "It is nowhere near the Dubai and Singapore shopping festivals. But area-wise, we are ahead, as 38,863 sq. km. of the state is converted into a shopping mall," he added.
Gifts as part of GKSF would become more attractive in the upcoming edition in 2010. The quantity of the gold prize has been increased from 40 kg to 101 kg and quality handloom products would be given as prizes for the scratch-and-win contests. Hotels and resorts of the state would be made partners in the fourth edition of GKSF, which would commence on December 1st 2010.
