Monitoring stations to ensure safety of tourists

For ensuring the safety of tourists coming to Kerala, the state government has decided to establish hi-tech monitoring stations with surveillance camera in various tourism destinations throughout the state. This new project will give boost to Kerala's tourism industry and would be implemented by Kerala Tourism along with assistance from the Central Government.

Mr. M. Sivasankar, Director, Kerala Tourism, said that the first phase of this project is to set up a monitoring station in the department's houseboat terminal at Punnamada backwaters in Alappuzha. He also added that already six surveillance cameras had been installed at Punnamada houseboat terminal. The aim of such monitoring stations is to check illegal activities happening in Kerala's tourism sector.

This monitoring system will function under the direct control of the tourism department and the director also felt that the new system would help police and tourism department to nab trouble-makers at tourist destinations. If the system turns successful in Alappuzha, then it will be extended to destinations like Kovalam and Kochi.
