Poomala dam, new tourist centre at Thrissur
Recently, the premises of the Poomala dam were declared as a tourist centre by the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The dam located in the district of Thrissur underwent beautification works, which were executed by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) of Thrissur. The dam is situated about 12 km east of Thrissur town.
This new tourist centre features eco-friendly measures and comprises a walkway with handrail spanning 600 m, a community hall, a cafeteria and toilet facilities. The Poomala reservoir scheme was commissioned in 1968.
