Kerala's second Tiger Reserve at Parambikulam
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary would soon get reckoned as the second tiger reserve on the wildlife map of Kerala. It would be elevated to the status of a tiger reserve, after its official inauguration in February by the Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Mr. Jairam Ramesh. The Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, which is getting converted into the tiger reserve, will now add more forest area on the Kerala side and also from the adjoining state of Tamil Nadu, for ensuring better protection of tigers. Parambikulam is about 110 km from Palakkad district of Kerala.
In Kerala, Periyar Tiger Reserve was the first one to come up in 1978 for the protection of this endangered animal.
