Kerala, a popular tourist destination for U.K. travellers

Kerala's participation in the World Trade Market (WTM) 2010 in London proved that Kerala remains a popular tourist destination among British travellers.

The Kerala pavilion, wrapped in the beauty of backwaters, received good response from the visitors. Welcoming the visitors with live Kathakali performances, the Kerala stall was one of the largest stalls by any Indian state and the largest ever by Kerala Tourism in WTM. The 'Capture Your Moment in Kerala' space, offered visitors to get themselves photographed against the backwater backdrop of the pavilion.

"Tourist arrival is fairly good at the start of the season this year. The business in October was much better when compared to last year. The tourism industry in Kerala is expected to do much better this year as compared to 2009," said Dr. Venu V., Secretary, Kerala Tourism. The large number of visitors to the pavilion shows a sense of optimism about the tourism sector in Kerala this year, according to Mr. M. Sivasankar, Director, Kerala Tourism.

With 1,41,653 tourists arrivals in 2009, U.K. is one of the biggest markets for Kerala. The global premiere of Kerala Tourism's campaign Your Moment is Waiting, has gained Britain's fascination for Kerala. Kerala also received good responses, after the Vogue, UK, world's renowned fashion and lifestyle magazine, captured the scenic beauty of the land in its 'Indian summer' shoot.
