Workshop at Iringal Craft Village

A workshop for the traditional artisans of Kerala was held on November 13, 2010 at the Iringal Craft Village in Kozhikode. This first of its kind crafts village is getting ready for its official inauguration in December this year, which is already making waves as an innovative venture helping artisans to have their products made popular, especially among travellers to Kerala.

The workshop inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will provide the artisan community a platform to unite and to prove their expertise.

Giving importance to promote Kerala's heritage, Kerala Tourism had set up this craft village at Iringal in Kozhikode district, where traditional artisans can showcase skills and products, and sell them at fair prices. The craft village also would provide opportunities for visitors to sped time with the craftsmen and understand the technicalities and skills that go into the making of various artifacts.

Iringal Art and Craft Village at Iringal, the land of the legendary Kunjali Marikar is situated on the banks of Moorad River in Kozhikode district. Set up in 20 acres, the craft village with 32 huts can accommodate about 100 artisans at a time. The village is basically a production-cum-training-cum-marketing centre of handicraft products made of coconut, screw pine, clay, wood and bamboo.
