Eco-friendly premises for Tipu's Fort
Tipu's Fort, situated in the heart of Palakkad town, will soon become an eco-friendly picnic spot. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) of Palakkad has submitted a proposal to Kerala Tourism for the beautification of the fort premises. The proposal focuses on facilitating healthy recreation facilities by cleaning and developing the outer periphery area of the fort and converting it into a green zone.
Soft landscaping, paved pathways, green fencing, installing sculptures and other art works, seating gallery, lighting and irrigation facilities are the major programmes included in the embellishment process.
The proposed project will be implemented following the approval of the Archaeological Survey of India and the State Archaeology Department.
The project will be implemented in three phases. The first phase includes the development of the western side of the fort. The area opposite to the Civil Station and the eastern side of the fort are included in the second and third phases respectively.
The project will give the fort a fresh look making it a charming site where tourists can enjoy their holidays.
The Tipu's Fort, also known as Palakkad Fort, was constructed in 1766 by Hyder Ali, the then King of Mysore.
