The G. V. Raja Convention Centre built to international standards was recently inaugurated by Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram. Situated in the premises of Hotel Samudra in Kovalam, this convention centre has been built by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) Hotels and Resorts.
This two-storeyed convention centre has been built in memory of the late Col. Godavarma Raja, considered as the 'Father of Kerala Tourism.' Popularly known as G.V. Raja, Col. Godavarma Raja was instrumental in earning a name for Kerala on the world tourism map and in popularizing destinations like Kovalam and Thekkady.
The new convention centre has a capacity to seat 1000 persons. The centre with all modern facilities has separate enclosures for convention and dining. This new convention centre will give a fillip to MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) tourism in Kerala. KTDC is hoping to cash in on the high demand for MICE tourism at Kovalam, a favourite place of multinational companies and others to host international conferences and meetings.
