New plans and projects are getting ready to make Idukki one of the favourite destinations on the international tourism map. Idukki Destination Development Scheme, the new project of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), is progressing in Idukki for increasing the tourism potential of the district.
The Hill View Park project and a tourism park at Cheruthoni near Idukki Dam are the major projects undertaken by the DTPC. The Hill View Park, situated near Idukki town, is an interesting tourism spot for local people. The beautification of Hill View Park would include a children's park, a restaurant, pavilions and other facilities. Sponsored by the Union Government, the Hill Park development project will cost Rs. 200 million.
The completion of the project will give the Park an international image. The Park will serve as a stopover between Thekkady and Munnar. Tourists coming from Kochi and Thodupuzha can also spend their weekends here.
A boat jetty will also be included in the project and the visitors can go for boating inside the reservoir and picnic in the bordering forest areas. The Hill View Park has already a pavilion which provides a bird's eye view of the Idukki reservoir and attracts many people since it was opened in 2006.
