Kerala Tourism has implemented a new project to map tourism resources to ensure their equitable distribution in the state. Named as Saparya or Synergizing Actions through Participatory Approach, this project encompasses the resource mapping of tourism potential, infrastructure development and creating innovative tourism products. The project was launched as an initiative of the Tourist Resorts Kerala Ltd. (TRKL).
The pilot scheme of Saparya will be implemented in 35 selected local bodies in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The inauguration of the first phase of the project was done by Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism in Pathanamthitta.
Sparaya will take into account adequate infrastructure and connectivity, availability of natural resources, skilled manpower, supportive and entrepreneurial community, strong local self-governments and civil society. Before introducing the programme a situation analysis of the region would be done and it includes tourism growth potential, key issues and constraints, and the general scenario with respect to tourism competitiveness. The mapping of these selected local bodies would be completed in three months and then a master plan would be prepared.
Saparya is to be implemented using funds provided under the State and Central schemes, public-private investment partnerships and international agencies.
