New plans for the development of tourism in the state
Kerala Tourism is all set to introduce new initiatives to attract more tourists to the state. For the purpose, Kerala Tourism is planning to begin a hop-on hop-off tour options for short sightseeing in selected destinations.
"The basic idea of this service is to introduce small conducted tours within a city with more flexibility," said Mr. A.P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.
The flexible nature of the tour will enable tourists to spend a little more time at a particular spot. Even if the bus by which they came leaves the place, they can opt for another bus. This tour service will be first introduced in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Fort Kochi, Kochi and Munnar. Based on the success of the programme in these cities, similar services will be launched in more destinations, said the minister.
Kerala Tourism is also planning to set up separate thematic museums to showcase the diverse natural and cultural heritage of the state. The Department of Tourism will give financial assistance for the establishment of ten such museums. These museums are being set up as part of the Muziris and Thalassery heritage projects.
Kerala Tourism also aims to create facilities for differently-abled persons, who wish to visit Kerala. The pilot phase of this project will be done in select destinations such as zoo and museum campuses at Thiruvananthapuram and at few places in Fort Kochi.
In order to improve the quality of major tourist destinations according to the satisfaction of tourists on the available facilities, Kerala Tourism will conduct periodic feedback surveys in destinations.
