The 2011 edition of Nishagandhi festival, a truly unique event for connoisseurs of art and music has begun. This seven-night colourful extravaganza of Indian classical dance and music, which started on January 20th is held at the Nishagandhi open-air auditorium at Kanakakunnu in Thiruvananthapuram. Renowned artistes from all over India will perform classical dance forms like Mohiniyattam, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Kuchipudi.
Nishagandhi 2011 honoured Prof. O.N.V. Kurup, the renowned Malayalam poet and Jnanpith winner and Dr. K.J. Yesudas, the musical legend of India. The festival started off with a Carnatic vocal by Dr. K.J. Yesudas.
Mohiniyattam by Gopika Varma, Madhavi Chandran, Rithu Prakash and Rachitha Ravi., Bharatanatyam by Shijith Nambiar and Parvathi Menon and Odissi by Aruna Mohanti will entertain dance lovers. And for the music lovers, there will be Sufi and Qawwali performance, Sarangi and Ghazal by Faiyaz Khan and Hindustani-Carnatic vocal by Dr. Sriram and Anuradha Sriram. Entry to the festival is free. There will be facilities for tourists to book seats in advance.
