Portuguese Ambassador visits Muziris
Ancient trade links between Portugal and Kerala are well known to the people of both the countries from the historic records about Vasco da Gama's visit to the Kerala coast. And after more than five centuries since Vasco da Gama's visit to Kerala, the historic Muziris in the Kodungalloor region of Kerala witnessed yet another visit by a Portuguese man. The Ambassador of Portugal to India Mr. Jorge Roza de Oliveira. The Ambassador evinced a great deal of enthusiasm in visiting places of historical importance along the Kerala coast.
During his recent visit to Kerala, the Ambassador visited the Muziris Heritage site near Kodungalloor in Thrissur. Muziris proved to be of special interest to the ambassador because of its ancient links with Portugal.
"Stepping back in time to the old days of Vasco da Gama because of its heritage-rich ambience" said Mr. Jorge Roza de Oliveira about Muziris. He felt that the people of Portugal should find it a very interesting place to visit.
The ambassador is looking forward to a collaboration between Portugal and Kerala in travel, tourism, education and research. He also mooted the introduction of direct flights linking both countries, which would be helpful for tourists to visit Kerala.
