Proposed projects for Kerala Tourism in the budget

The new budget presented by Mr. K. M. Mani, Minister for Finance, offered various new projects for the development of Kerala Tourism. The projects focused on are the construction of Kottayam-Kumarakom-Cherthala Tourist Highway and the developmental activities in Varkala.

The proposed four-lane tourist highway linking Kodimatha in Kottayam-Kumarakom-Cherthala is expected to boost the tourism sector in central Kerala. Ring Roads linking the major roads and bypasses will also be constructed to avoid traffic blocks in the cities and towns in central Kerala. For this Rs. 100 million has been set apart in the budget. With the completion of this highway, central Kerala's tourist destinations will be easily accessible for tourists.

The first phase of the project will begin with the construction of ring roads at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram, Pala and Mampra in Kottayam district and Manjeri in Malappuram district.

A Convention Centre of international standards will be constructed at Varkala, near Thiruvananthapuram. A development agency will be formed for implementing the development projects at Varkala, as it's a major tourist destination for both tourists and pilgrims.
