The successful Responsible Tourism (RT) model of Kumarakom should be replicated in other tourist destinations in the State, said Mr. A. P. Anil Kumar, Minister for Tourism, while inaugurating the three-day international symposium on "Tourism and livelihood" held recently at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram.
Responsible Tourism initiatives in Kovalam, Kumily and the whole of Wayanad district will be examined in detail and soon the Kumarakom model would be implemented in these places for making Responsible Tourism a success story in the tourism sector of Kerala, the Minister added.
The technical session of the symposium commenced with an address by Dr. Harold Goodwin, Director of International Centre for Responsible Tourism. He said that the RT model developing in Kerala was unique. Dr. M. K. Muneer, Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayats, released the book "Tourism and Livelihood - Selected Experiences from Kerala". The Minister offered all support to take the responsible tourism initiatives forward.
The symposium was organised by Kerala Tourism and the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) in association with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
