According to Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, there are many projects nearing completion, which would further enhance the potential of tourism in Kerala. The minister said this while inaugurating the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary Development Scheme at Kottayam recently. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary Development Scheme, a new project of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) includes the construction of three observation towers in the bird sanctuary. Two of them will be for the tourists and the third for ornithologists and researchers.
Various projects are nearing completion in different parts of Kerala. They include the land acquisition for setting up a unit of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) at Muzhappilangad in Kannur district; the Rs 45 million work of the G.V.Raja Convention Centre coming up at Hotel Samudra in Kovalam. An outside Kerala project that got completed was the ten storeyed Kerala House building in Chennai, which recently got inaugurated.
Efforts are also on to increase air connectivity to Kerala for the benefit of the tourism industry here. The Minister also stressed the need for greater collaboration between the public and private sectors in developing tourism.
