Heritage tourism projects in Ernakulam
Giving heritage conservation and tourism in Ernakulam district a major boost, the government has sanctioned fourteen new projects.
The proposed projects for heritage conservation include the beautification of Prathyashamatha Church at Fort Vypeen and Triveni Sangamam - Muvattupuzha river mouth, conservation of Chinese nets, construction of dhows, conservation activities at Paravur court complex, pavilion for Champakkara boat race, development of the Kadamprayar - Marine Drive waterway and a documentary on Kochi culture.
The projects also plan to construct a gateway tourism centre, a light-and-sound show, an Onam national museum at Thrikkakara, an Onam Theme Park at Mavelipuram, an adventure tourism base camp at Bhoothathankettu dam and a backwater tourism circuit at Poothotta-Piravom.
Besides these, the ongoing projects include the beautification of a model street at Panampilly Nagar, setting up an inland waterway terminal complex at Kadamprayar and Cheranalloor, Alappuzha-Kumarakom-Muziris backwater corridor, a luxury cruise terminal complex, a heritage tourism reception centre at Mattancherry, a pilgrim tourism project in connection with Thiruvairanikkulam Temple, an island tourism project at Okkal in Kalady and a beach tourism project at Veliyathamparambu.
