Rowing through the backwaters of Alappuzha
Mr. Jurg Rosenberger, the Swiss national rowing champion, was in Kerala recently to enjoy a sporty vacation on the backwaters of Alappuzha. Mr. Rosenberger was taking a break from his own corporate design agency in Zurich, Switzerland, to row in the backwaters of Alappuzha with his friends from the Guilin International Rowing Club.
To relish the beauty of backwaters Mr. Jurg Rosenberger and his friends chose to do it the way they liked the most. The five-day tour programme had four rowers and covered a distance of about 40 km on the backwaters. The rowing tour included visits to coconut oil mills, coir manufacturing units, massages at Ayurveda centres and visits to paddy fields.
"The idea of rowing tours first hit me and my friends about five years back and the first such tour happened in China. For four years, drawing participants from across the world, including those from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong and Switzerland, our team rowed along the Li River in Guilin in China. The Guilin International Rowing Club was thus founded. A club similar to the Guilin Club could be thought about in Alappuzha as well," said Mr. Jurg Rosenberger.
