Kakkayam-Peruvannamuzhi Tourism Project launched

The developmental works of the Kakkayam - Peruvannamuzhi tourism project has been inaugurated by Mr. Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala at Kakkayam in Kozhikode District. The project aims at popularising the area as an eco-tourism destination.

"In view of the United Nations declaring the Western Ghats as a World Heritage Zone, thrust would be given to eco-friendly tourism and developmental activities in the Ghats region", said the Chief Minister.

"The project would be carried out without affecting the ecology of the region" said Mr. A. P. Anilkumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.

The developmental works here also include the construction of a boat jetty, cafeterias and play areas. The project would be carried out with the help of the Union Government, which has allocated Rs. 50 million.

Kakkayam - Peruvannamuzhi, two dam sites located around 50 km from Kozhikode, offer exotic wildlife watching, trekking and rock climbing opportunities for the visitors.
