KTM ends with a resolution to clean up tourist spots
Curtains came down on the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) 2012 in Kochi recently with the stakeholders adopting a resolution to make 'God's Own Country' a cleaner destination. 'Kerala Clean Destination Drive', the resolution adopted at the premier travel mart, says that cent percent hygiene will be ensured in all destinations in a phased manner.
Kerala Tourism will implement the clean destination drive with local participation. The nine destinations selected in the initial phase are Kovalam, Varkala, Alappuzha, Munnar, Thekkady, Marine Drive, Fort Kochi, Wayanad and Kumarakom. The target set is September 2013.
"The tourism industry relies on the unique features of the state. We have to protect our identity to attain sustainable growth," said Mr. Suman Billa, Secretary, Kerala Tourism.
"KTM 2012 has identified solid waste management as a major problem faced by the tourism sector. We will resolve this through programmes under responsible tourism initiatives," said Ms. Rani George, Director, Kerala Tourism.
The four-day travel mart held at Le Meridien hotel was attended by 1,486 buyers, including 398 international and 1,088 domestic buyers. The next edition will be held in September 2014.
